Hello hello!
Just a quickie—most pledges are good to go on Xpressions. YAY! Anyone who is still lacking should have received an email from us. We’re very proud of everyone for being so on top of things. :D
PS — The last of the Xpressions are due Dec. 5, so that’s when paragraphs will start going up. They will be put up randomly (not by groups or deadlines or topics), so that being published will be a surprise for everyone! Also, they will make for some entertaining readings, since you won’t have general meetings for your weekly dose of APO—so look forward to December! :D
Hello brothers and friends!
Lo siento for the slight hiatus. Hopefully everyone’s been too busy family spirit-ing it up to miss us too much. Congratulations to all the participants in the Tri-Family events. Remember—we are all winners. (:
In other news, this week’s Xpressions topics are:
1. What article of clothing is your favorite, and why? (Incorporate LFS into this, please.)
2. Which came first: the chicken or the egg?
3. Describe a time when you were a really good friend.
Keep checking back as these blurbs will soon make their way onto the tumblr.
That’s all for now! Later daysssss. (:
PS — We’re sooo sorry, everyone! We didn’t realize there was bowling league on Tuesdays. This fellowship is going to be moved to a different date during the first week of December when we all get back from Thanksgiving break. Date TBD based on the availability of the MUGA. But in answer to the inside/outside IC-ness of the event, because it was a collaborative effort on both our parts, it can count as either. See you after break!
PPS — For pledges who have already turned in their Xpressions, rather than send back an email to each of you, we will only be sending you an email if you owe us anything. If you do not receive an email from us, it means you are good to go. Hopefully this will prevent a lot of spammage/emails. If you feel very strongly about getting a confirmation, however, you can email us and we will let you know that we received a blurb from you.
Hellooooo Bros (Big Bros, Lil Bros, PBros, ICBros)!
Hopefully everyone can still hear after fam revealing tonight.
Just some quick reminders:
— Dear pledges, Xpressions are important.
We will continue to remind you on a week-by-week basis to get your stuff in, but we’re not going to baby you and call you out for not turning one in. That’s on you. Get it done, or don’t cross.
— If you miss your deadline, you owe us an extra paragraph.
The topics for this week are:
1. If you could be any superhero, who would you be, and why? (You HAVE to incorporate LFS into this one.)
2. If a murderer gets permanent amnesia, should they still be charged with first degree murder?
3. What does service mean to you?
Happy Xpressing, and remember to enjoy this week. As we bid adieu, just a bit of advice: everyone lies—that person is NOT your big bro. (We are. [:)
Laterrrr days!
Oh hiiiiii, IPhi!
We hope everyone had a wonderful Halloweek (that’s “Halloween” and “week” combined, jtlyk). Good job to everyone who went out to AvP week. (Extra props to the pledges for tying with the actives.)
Sooo, in case anyone is still confused about what’s going down in regards to Xpressions blurbs, Groups 1-3 have an extension until midnight of next Sunday. You guys can either write another 100-150 paragraph on another prompts, or revise the paragraph you’ve already sent us (assuming you’ve already sent it in). In any case, the total amount of wordage you submit should be about 250.
If you are in Groups 4-6, your deadline is still midnight of next Sunday. You guys need to choose one of the following prompts and answer it with a paragraph of about 250 words. The topics you can choose from are:
1. If you were a serial killer, what would your weapon of choice be, and why? (If you incorporate LFS into this, you earn the highest of fives.)
2. What songs would be on the soundtrack of your life, and why?
3. What does friendship mean to you?
Other than that, we’ll keep this update short & sweet: congrats to all the new Plexcomm members! Good job to everyone who ran—you guys are all awesome. See everyone at Scavenger Hunt! :D
Laterrrrr days!
Hello IPhi, and welcome back to civilization!
For those of you who went to Pledge Retreat, we hope you had a great time! Thank you to everyone to helped out: drivers, cooks, tent pitchers, tent disablers, cleaner-uppers, etc.—it wouldn’t have been possible without you!
Now that we’re back, though, there is more fun to be had. AvP is this week! No, we’re not talking about Aliens vs. Predators; we’re talking about Actives vs. Pledges! It’s almost the same, except that in the movies, predators always win, whereas in life, actives always bring it home. [; (Just kidding. Show us what’s up, Chandler kids!) Come out and support your respective teams—or better yet, show up and REPRESENT!
Segueing, the due dates for Xpressions will be the following for the groups:
Groups 1-3: Midnight of October 31, 2010
Groups 4-6: Midnight of November 7, 2010
Groups 7-9: Midnight of November 14, 2010
Groups 10-12: Midnight of November 21, 2010
Groups 13-15: Midnight of November 28, 2010
Groups 16-18: Midnight of December 5, 2010 (We know there’s no meeting, but that doesn’t mean you can’t email us.)
Paragraphs needs to be between 200-250 words; and if you fail to send in your paragraph on time, you owe us another one!
Prompts for Groups 1-3 are (choose ONE of the following to answer):
1. If you were invited to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which House would the Sorting Hat put you in and why? (It would be best if you could incorporate LFS into this explanation.)
2. Describe your dream wedding.
3. What does leadership mean to you?
On that note, we’d like to conclude by wishing GOOD LUCK to all the plexcomm nominees!
Laterrrrr days! (:
PS—Thank you to everyone to reads this. To show my appreciation, anyone who comes up to Giolinh this week and cabbage patches will receive a special treat at the meeting on Sunday. Happy dancing!
Hola APhiO, & welcome, new Chandler babies! (We mean that in a nice “your pmommy just popped you out” kind of way, not a mean “you’re a weenie” way.)
Anyway, thank you to everyone who came out during rush week! Hopefully everyone had a fantastic time. Also, please don’t forget about IPhi IM sports. Let’s show all of UC Davis what’s up with IPhi. (:
In other news, a new term means a new Excomm (and by “new,” we mean “a couple months old.”) Are you ready to meet them?? COME ON DOWN!
El Presidente — Jeffrey Kwong
Hello, My name is Jeffrey.
I like long walks on the beach, candle light dinners, and being sarcastic. But that is a story for another time. The story now is that I was born and raised in San Francisco. A third year, double major: Sociology and another rare major that I will not tell you and you will have to guess what it is when we talk. One thing that really makes me stand out from everyone else is that I am usually referred to as the guy with long hair. And yes my hair is long and I have not cut it ever since I came into College (July 2007). Your response, ” OMG, WOW, REALLY, WOW, how do you do it? I love that VOLUME in you HURR!!! OMG!!!”
There is something more important that we must discuss and it is not about my life story (even though my life is pretty important). But instead it is the purpose we are in Alpha Phi Omega, the purpose we are in school and the bigger picture, the purpose in our lives. It is important that we all have a reason for the things we do and that is where I want everyone to start thinking. What is the purpose you joined Alpha Phi Omega. And I also ask you: Actives, what is your duty as an active and what do you expect from yourself and from other actives? Pledges, what do you want and expect from Alpha Phi Omega? Really think in depth, and be real about your answers. Don’t conform to what others say but instead think about who you are and what you feel. What does your mind and heart tell you about the reasons you do what you do.
Now I give you my answers to these questions. I first joined Alpha Phi Omega because I started fading from the outside world and really just spent a year pretty chill at home and with some close friends. Then I felt it was time for me to go back out and make new friends. Now I knew anything I joined I was bound to make friends but then I found a service Fraternity. I thought cool a Frat, and then I thought cool I can do service (thinking in my head: “I like doing service”) and at the same time I get to meet new people. And then I was in Alpha Phi Omega. My purpose now has changed in Alpha Phi Omega. It is not just solely on Service but instead to help this chapter shape into something that every individual can find his or her place within. That is one reason I ran for President, I felt there is growing room for this chapter and I hoped to help in bringing this chapter to a better position. Now as an active, I felt my duty was to help out: here and there, wherever I can, and whenever I could. Why I did it? There wasn’t really a reason why; I just felt it was my duty.
What I expect from an active? First, it is obvious to have fun, and really find your place in Alpha Phi Omega. Second it is to help: help the chapter where you feel it is necessary and you feel that you have the ability to help, help guide the other actives and pledges in finding their place in this fraternity, and finally help yourself in having a stronger mindset and knowing more about who you are. What I expect from a pledge? First, again obviously have fun and take it chill. Second, it is to find your place and know what you want from this fraternity. Finally, it is to speak up when you feel what you want has not been provided (given that is a rational want, i.e. not a girl or guy). Sorry if it may seem I am lecturing or jabbering on. Some may read this and agree, some may read it and disagree, other may read it, think “okay” and move on with life. No matter what you do, just take the questions and think to yourself, what are your reasons to those questions? Finally I end with saying, be a true friend, be a great leader, be the heart of Service.
HIGH FIVE!!! I mean…..I PHI!!!!
Service Vice President (SVPs) — Kaycee Calip
OH HAYYY IPHI! <3 M’name’s Kaycee Bartleby Calip and I’m a transfer Sociology and Psychology major from San Jose.
I have a mad, long-term obsession with Harry Potter (NOVEMBER 19, YOU GUYS, NOVEMBER 19) and Daniel Radcliffe, a short-term obsession with <insert dreamy 20-something celebrity here>, and a feverish adoration for Lady Godga and Godney Spears.
I am REALLY, REALLY, REALLY loud and I have no idea what an “indoor voice” is, but I’m awfully friendly and energetic and excitable and I love SERVICE! and talking to people. I’m on FB, AIM, and Tumblr (and Hulu! But it’d be weird if you contacted me through that) all the damn time, so shoot me a message/IM/whathaveyou and I’d love to have a nice little chat. :]
Service Vice President (SVPs) — QA Nguyen
Hi, my name is QA Nguyen! I am the Service Vice President along with Kaycee Calip. I like service stuff and helping people out. I completely hate talking about myself, I don’t know what to say most of the time about myself especially when it’s online and I am talking to a computer screen. Just talk to me, have a conversation, I promise I won’t bore you. We can talk about anything (except for like Star Trek), but talk of the weather will do!
Vice President of Membership (MVPs) — Jessica Li
Yo! My name is Jessica and I am one of the two Membership Vice Presidents for Fall 2010’s Chandler Class. My partner and I work to provide the LEADERSHIP aspect of Alpha Phi Omega. We also try our best to work for the chapter and the active brothers in Iota Phi. HAY, ask about it! A bit about myself, I am from the best city in the world, San Francisco. I am really into music, art, fashion, cars and YouTube. People tell me I have a crazy sleeping cycle and I do, that means 4AM interviews yeeee. I live for the community and it drives me crazy but keeps me sane. I’m a busy body you can find me longboarding around campus texting in one hand and holding a cup of coffee in the other. I have body art and piercings. But don’t get it twisted I am super easy to talk to. Welcome to IPhi, make yourself comfortable and get your Leadership, Friendship and Service on! Peaceeeeee
